Position Overview
The Solar PV Technician will be responsible for site surveys/visits, installation, maintenance, and repair of solar PV systems. This role requires high technical expertise and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Reports to the Chief Technical Officer.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Design, Installations, and Commissioning
    • Design, install, configure, and commission solar PV systems, including modules, inverters, and balance of system components.
    • Ensure compliance with design specifications, local codes, and safety standards.
  2. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks on solar PV systems, including cleaning, inspection, and system testing.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues and implement necessary repairs or replacements.
  3. Electrical Wiring and Connections
    • Connect solar systems parts and/or components.
    • Ensure proper wiring connections to optimize system performance.
  4. Safety and Quality Assurance
    • Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines while working with electrical equipment and heights.
    • Conduct quality checks to ensure installations meet industry standards and company specifications.
  5. Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance activities, and equipment inventory.
    • Provide detailed reports on system performance and any necessary repairs or upgrades.
  6. Project, Research, and Development
    • Initiate, develop, lobby, and implement projects and innovations
    • Engage in energy research and development
Qualifications
  1. a) Minimum qualification is a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Technology, Renewable Energy Technology, and Energy Engineering or Management with focus on renewable energy
  2. Two (2) years of practical experience in Solar PV systems or Solar Energy
  3. Strong knowledge of Solar PV systems, components, and electrical systems
  4. Ability to read and interpret electrical and structural drawings
  5. Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  6. Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  7. Computer skills are a must
  8. Knowledge of solar PV system simulation and design software is an added advantage
